There are 3 basic ways that it can grow your plants for you.
From the Community – Whether the community has created schedules or smart rules, they are typically specific to a plant species. Most community profiles are proven for raising the perfect strain. Start with a profile and you can always make changes to it.
Schedule tasks – The scheduler is a highly custom and sophisticated tool that gives you full control of automating tasks each day, every other day, twice a day, etc. It also allows you to program a start date and end date for tasks so that you can increase some things like water as the plant grows, matures, and requires more.
Smart Rules – Smart rules allow you to take action with devices based on a triggered event from one or more of the sensors. For example if the soil is too dry, then apply water. Or if the humidity is too high, send me a notification. This supports IFTTT (If This Then That) type of rules.
